Content Gaps: The Cheapest Place to Win

A content gap is a question people are asking that nobody has answered well. It is the fastest route to reach for a small channel.

Big channels win crowded topics because the algorithm already trusts them. A smaller creator cannot outspend them there — but can arrive first where they have not bothered to go. Those places are content gaps: questions with real demand and thin, dated or confusing answers.

You can find gaps in three places. Search your topic and look at the dates: if the best results are two years old, the gap is recency. Read the comments under popular videos: repeated questions the creator never answered are a gap in depth. And look at formats: a topic covered only in long videos is a gap for a clear 60-second version, and vice versa.

In Contren, the content gap score on every trend estimates how much room is left, and the Opportunities list collects topics where demand is high and supply is low. Each one comes with suggested angles, so you start from a brief rather than a blank page.

When you fill a gap, be the clearest answer, not the longest. Lead with the answer in the first sentence, show one concrete example, and say what you do not know. Viewers reward being helped quickly, and a clear answer is what gets saved and shared.

In short
  • Check the dates on the top results for your topic
  • Mine the comments of popular videos for unanswered questions
  • Try the format nobody has used yet
  • Lead with the answer, then the example
